Central Catholic High School

To Educate is to Liberate.

Welcome

In our Elementary School program at Venerini Academy, we prioritize the comprehensive development of each child. We recognize that education encompasses emotional, social, physical, and cognitive aspects, and our curriculum reflects this understanding. By considering all dimensions of a child's growth, we ensure a well-rounded education that prepares students for lifelong learning.

Our curriculum is designed to be developmentally appropriate, building upon previous knowledge and skills as students progress from year to year. We believe in fostering a love of learning and providing rigorous academics within a safe and respectful environment. Through engaging and challenging experiences, we empower students to acquire a rich body of knowledge and develop essential skills for future success.

Inspired to Learn.

Formed to Lead.

Creation and Self-Expression

We realize that the first years of a child's academic life are crucial ones in establishing positive attitudes and dispositions toward learning. We value a young child's natural desire to learn through creation and self-expression. We strive to build upon our students' curiosity while instilling in them a spirit of cooperation, a respect for others and for their ideas, and a satisfaction in personal intellectual growth.

The Academy’s strong literacy and math curriculum provide the basis for work across all subject areas including Science/STREAM, Social Studies, and foreign language. The goal of our Lower School Literacy Curriculum is to create students who are independent, critical thinkers and confident, effective communicators by developing strong reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Students engage daily in productive reading, thinking, talking and writing activities. Through the writing process students develop effective writing and presentation strategies to construct meaning across all content areas. The development of literacy skills is gradual and shifts over time as children grow and the texts they read and pieces they write become more complex. Skills and strategies are introduced at specific grade levels and are practiced, reinforced, and mastered in subsequent grades.

Student Curiosity

The Elementary School mathematics program aims to foster student curiosity about and appreciation for mathematics as a discipline while developing a deep understanding of math concepts, competence with math skills, and strength in reasoning and thinking like a mathematician. In elementary classrooms, students are engaged in solving problems, explaining reasoning, justifying solutions, asking questions, looking for patterns, and communicating with others about mathematical ideas and strategies.

Research-Based Educational Practices

Classroom instruction is complemented by weekly participation in a variety of special subject areas. These include library, music, art, foreign language, STEAM, computer/coding and physical education. The Elementary School Curriculum reflects respect for Venerini’s rich academic heritage and our involvement with current research-based educational practices and philosophical thought.
